Sanjay Bedi, Senior Vice President

On June 5, 2006, Sanjay Bedi joined Hospitality Talent Scouts as a Senior Vice President. He left a position as Regional Director of Operations with Interstate Hotels and Resorts, the nation’s largest independent hotel management company, after 10 years. Sanjay began his career with Interstate as a property Director of Finance. He originally joined Interstate with American General Hospitality, who merged with CapStar Hotels to form Meristar Hotels & Resorts. Meristar later went on to acquire Interstate Hotels and changed the name of its management division to Interstate Hotels and Resorts.
Soon after joining Interstate Hotels & Resorts as Director of Finance in 1996, Sanjay was promoted to Assistant General Manager and then to General Manager within just two years. He led his hotels with great success, with excellent scores in all aspects of the balanced score card. One Marriott product Sanjay was responsible for was recognized as the Franchise Hotel of the Year for the North East region by the Marriott Corporation. Meristar also recognized Sanjay for his leading financial achievements among its 230 hotels at that time. Sanjay was also one of the two runners up for the company’s Exceeding Expectations Award in 1999 among the 230 hotels.
During the lean hotel years following September 11, 2001, Sanjay functioned as General Manager for Interstate and led a team of 8 EC members, 35 managers, and about 250 associates from March 2001 through March 2004, the toughest time that the hotel industry has faced. During these three years, he not only significantly raised the Guest Satisfaction scores at his hotel but also achieved the highest Associate Satisfaction scores in the properties’ history. He also coordinated the Regional Guest Satisfaction Committee for Interstate, comprising 20 full-service and limited-service hotels of various premium brands.
In April 2004, Sanjay was promoted to the position of Regional Director of Operations with Interstate, a position he held for more than two years before deciding to join Hospitality Talent Scouts. During his tenure as Regional Director of Operations, Sanjay was responsible for the total performance of 11 hotels. His portfolio included such full-service and limited-service brands as the Marriott, Hilton Suites, Crowne Plaza, Double Tree, Holiday Inn, Hilton Garden Inn, and Four Points by Sheraton. Four of his 11 hotels were in the Manhattan market, and other markets included Kentucky, Virginia, Michigan, and Pennsylvania .
During his 10 years with Interstate, Sanjay recruited numerous managers, department heads, and General Managers. He has successfully mentored many managers to department head and Executive Committee positions. His success has been due to his systematic screening of individuals and his belief in candidates who demonstrate stability and progression in their careers and who are achievement-driven individuals.
Sanjay has a Master of Business Administration from Clarion University of Pennsylvania and completed his undergraduate work at St. Stephen’s College at the University of Delhi.
